On our first day in Barcelona, we’ll spend the morning exploring Montserrat, a spectacular Benedictine monk mountain retreat that offers stunning views and spiritual significance.
The history of Montserrat dates back to 880 AD, when a group of shepherd children saw a bright light descending from the sky in the Montserrat mountains. This vision led to the discovery of an image of the Virgin Mary in a cave, which soon became a revered pilgrimage site. Since then, Montserrat has been a place of devotion for religious pilgrims from around the world.
We’ll begin our journey at the foot of the mountain and take a cable car up to the entrance of the Montserrat Monastery. After a guided tour, we’ll continue our ascent via two funiculars, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Barcelona and the surrounding landscapes.

In the afternoon, we’ll return to Barcelona to visit its most iconic landmark, La Sagrada Familia. This magnificent basilica, designed by the legendary architect Antoni Gaudi, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (added in 1984).
Construction began in 1882, and despite Gaudi’s tragic death in 1926—his remains rest in the crypt—the project has continued, with the expectation of completion by 2026, the centenary of Gaudi’s death. The complexity of Gaudi’s design has made progress slow, but the architectural masterpiece is steadily taking shape.
In the evening, enjoy dinner at your own pace—wander the lively streets of Barcelona to discover a hidden gem, or choose from one of our carefully selected restaurant suggestions for an authentic local experience.

On our first full day of the route, we’ll temporarily say goodbye to Barcelona to explore the Costa Brava, discovering some of its most charming coastal and inland villages—starting with Tossa de Mar.
Tossa de Mar is a picturesque seaside town nestled within a breathtaking natural setting. We’ll stroll through its medieval walled centre, enjoy spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea, and wander the narrow cobbled streets lined with flower-covered balconies that seem to transport us to another time.
Our next stop is Peratallada, a perfectly preserved medieval village surrounded by a deep moat that once served as protection from invaders. The town’s name reflects its stone-built architecture—many homes covered in bougainvillea and ivy, creating a truly storybook setting. While here, we’ll take a break for lunch.
This is the perfect moment to sample the local specialty, arroz de Pals a la cazuela—a rich rice dish baked in a clay pot, typically prepared with meat, seafood, or both. Tempting, isn’t it?
To complete this trio of historical gems, we’ll stop in Pals, just 10 kilometres from Peratallada. Like its neighbour, Pals is a beautifully preserved medieval village, full of charm with its stone alleyways and well-tended homes. It may look like a film set—but it’s a living, breathing piece of Catalonia’s heritage.
We’ll end the day in Girona, where you’ll have free time to start discovering the city’s old town, riverside walkways, or simply relax with a drink and take in the atmosphere.
- Accommodation: Casa Cundaro / Palau dels Alemanys / Etc..
- Meals: Breakfast
Today, we’ll explore Girona alongside a private local guide, who will lead us through the most fascinating corners of this ancient city—boasting over 2,000 years of Roman history and layered cultural heritage.
We’ll visit key landmarks including the magnificent Gothic Cathedral, the Call (one of the best-preserved Jewish Quarters in Europe), the evocative Arab Baths, the city walls, and the Monastery of Sant Pere de Galligants. Walking through Girona feels like stepping back in time, with every corner telling a story.
Beyond its history, Girona is also a top gastronomic destination. It proudly hosts one of the world’s most acclaimed restaurants: El Celler de Can Roca, awarded three Michelin stars. Their culinary project has expanded across the region and continues to set global standards. A meal here is certainly a splurge—but for many, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience that’s well worth it.
And for film lovers, Girona offers another surprise: the city served as one of the filming locations for Game of Thrones. Iconic spots like the Cathedral steps and the Arab Baths may look familiar. For the most dedicated fans, we can arrange an optional extended tour covering all the major filming locations, complete with stories, maps, and insider trivia.
To close the day, enjoy a dinner with a carefully paired wine selection that showcases the best of local flavours.
The exact venue will depend on availability and your budget, but rest assured—each of our curated restaurant options promises a truly memorable Catalan dining experience.

Our day revolves around the figure of Salvador Dali, one of the most celebrated Spanish artists of the 20th century, and arguably the world’s most iconic surrealist.
We’ll begin in Figueres, Dali’s hometown, with a visit to the Salvador Dali Theatre-Museum—a dreamlike space entirely dedicated to his life and work. Opened in 1974 on the site of the former municipal theatre, the museum houses works donated by Dali himself, alongside others held by the Dali Foundation. This extraordinary visit takes us on a journey through the artist’s evolution, from his early years in Spain, to his time in France and the United States.
To deepen our immersion in Dali’s world, we’ll head to Cadaques, the town that most deeply influenced his artistic vision. Tucked into the rugged coastline of the Costa Brava, Cadaques dazzles with its natural light, craggy shores, and whitewashed buildings.
Once a fortified fishing village under threat from corsairs, it later became a bohemian hub in the 20th century, attracting artists and thinkers such as Picasso, Miro, Chagall, Duchamp, Magritte, Buñuel, and Garcia Lorca—many of whom came at Dali’s personal invitation.
Here, we’ll visit the Dali-Gala House in Portlligat, where Dali lived and worked for nearly 50 years. Stepping inside his former home offers rare insight into the artist’s inner world and shows us why he chose this serene Mediterranean village as his lifelong retreat, even after his years in bustling New York.
After a relaxed stroll through Cadaques, soaking in the atmosphere of the Costa Brava, we’ll return to Figueres for the night.
- Accommodation: Hotel Duran / Falgarona Hotel Boutique & SPA
- Meals: Breakfast
- Activities: Dali Theatre-Museum & Dali-Gala House (Tickets included)
After breakfast, we’ll head west, leaving the Mediterranean coast behind as we transition into Catalonia’s inland mountains. Our journey today brings us deep into history—starting with a visit to the remarkable Salt Mine of Cardona.
Dating back to Roman times, this natural wonder has been mined for centuries, providing a vital source of wealth and power to the region’s medieval lords. Known as the “Mountain of Salt,” it reveals a stunning geological landscape of ever-forming stalactites, salt crystals, and multicoloured rock formations.
We’ll descend 86 metres underground on a guided tour to explore its winding tunnels and marvel at the shimmering natural beauty. The visit also includes a stop at the Salt Museum, where we’ll uncover the mine’s 2,000-year history and its economic and cultural significance to Cardona and beyond.
After our subterranean adventure, we’ll enjoy lunch in Cardona’s historic centre, where several local restaurants (available by prior reservation) offer regional specialities in medieval surroundings.
