The Ruta del Cares is one of the most iconic hiking trails in Spain, offering an unforgettable adventure that blends natural beauty, history, and thrilling landscapes. Located in the breathtaking Picos de Europa National Park, it stretches across the regions of Asturias and Leon.

Known as the “Divine Gorge,” this trail follows the dramatic Cares River canyon, presenting spectacular views of towering cliffs, crystal-clear waters, and rugged mountain scenery.

The 12-kilometer route (one way) connects the picturesque villages of Poncebos (Asturias) and Cain (Leon). A round trip covers approximately 24 kilometers, typically taking 6–8 hours to complete. The path is well-maintained and relatively flat, making it ideal for hikers with a moderate fitness level.

As you walk through the narrow canyon, surrounded by dramatic vertical cliffs, you’ll have the chance to spot local wildlife such as goats, vultures, and other creatures native to the Picos de Europa National Park.

Since both villages are located in a remote area, we can arrange transportation services with local companies for transfers from Cangas de Onis, or simply provide a return trip if you prefer not to hike both ways.

For the afternoon and evening, you have several options: return to Cangas de Onis by transport for a relaxing evening, or stay overnight in a traditional mountain house near the end of the route to fully immerse yourself in the beauty of the area.
